Walking!

Eva is moving to the regular floor today, out of the ICU!  Her chest tube hasn't been removed yet, because her body is still producing too much fluid, but we're hoping for tomorrow.  That will make her much more comfortable.

She walked around the nurse's station a few times today, by the doctor's orders.  She has some extra fluid in her chest, and  a small amount of her right lung is collapsed - BUT, it's not as serious as it sounds.  She's in enough pain that it is hard for her to take deep breaths, and she can't cough, so the lungs are suffering for it.  The doctor wants her sitting up, and walking, to try to get her to take deeper breaths.  She was so proud of herself for walking as much as she did.  The new pain meds are working well, so it's not as miserable as it sounds for her to be up and walking.

I spent some time with the boys today.  I discovered some apps for the iPad that Declan loves - Montessori reading and math ones - and we played together for about an hour after lunch.

No pictures today yet - my mom was with her for most of the day so I could rest and shower, and she didn't take pictures while Eva was walking.  I'll get some later and post tonight.

  1. So glad to hear Eva is doing so well! Our littlest one may need some heart surgery over the next few years, too, so it was good for me to see what a little trooper she is. Her spirit brought tears to my eyes!

    Blessings wished for you all!

  3. I am very happy to hear of Eva's progress. I do worry about the fluid and the lung but I know when she can move better without so much pain; she'll breathe better and that fluid will go away. Poor little girl needs to do that coughing to get it going. Did they give her something firm to hold onto to make it easier to cough?

I will continue to pray for her recovery and to give all of you strength.

    Love you all big bunches!

    Love,
